Eldridge Parkway’s former two-lane alignment still cuts through the Addicks Reservoir and Bear Creek Park. Fourteen photographs follow the old pavement, scattered center stripes and right-of-way from the reservoir dam north toward Clay Road.
A look south down the same right-of-way. This photo was shot from a small road leadind off into the reservoir. Below you can see some evidence of the old road.
At Paterson Road looking north at the abandoned road. At the trees in the distance the road takes a right turn to the east back towards Eldridge Parkway.
Back at Eldridge Parkway looking west. This is the continuation of the previous photo. At this point the abandoned road/alignment runs next to Eldridge Parkway to Clay Road. At Clay Road the old and new alignments converge.
The rest of the old alignment is well groomed because it rest between Eldridge Parkway and Bear Creek Park. Just around the bend to the left is the intersection with Clay Road.
In the early 1980's the section of Eldridge Parkway (Addicks-Fairbanks) north of IH-10 through the Addicks Reservoir was expanded from two to four lanes. At this time it was also slightly realigned. As a result there is an abandoned right-of-way and some old sections of road still visible.
