  1. The street index frames the map

Directory columns run down the left and across the bottom of the sheet. The archived description notes that part of the directory is missing, so the scan should not be treated as a complete index.

  2. Letters and numbers support the grid

Letters mark the top and bottom edges while numbers run down both sides, giving the street directory a way to point readers into the map.

  3. Transit and public places share the sheet

The archived description says the map includes street car lines, railroads, parks, churches, schools and public buildings along with blocks, streets and roads.

DALLAS–FORT WORTH / HISTORICAL CONTEXT

A city map with a street directory

Rogers Official Directory Company published this 1925 map. The archived description says it covers blocks, streets, roads, highways and railroads, then adds parks, churches, schools, public buildings and street car lines. It also gives distances to other cities and towns.

The map itself is unusually tall because the city map and directory panels share one sheet. The archive warning matters here: part of the street directory is missing, even though the map image remains available for close inspection.
