  1. Limited-access highways get their own symbol

The legend labels limited-access highways separately from paved and other highways, making the freeway network easier to distinguish than it was on the 1960 sheet.

  2. Construction status is part of the legend

Completed and under-construction segments use separate line treatments, so the map records both the network in service and work still in progress.

  3. The turnpike crosses the middle of the sheet

The Dallas–Fort Worth Turnpike is labeled across the center of the regional view between the two cities.

DALLAS–FORT WORTH / HISTORICAL CONTEXT

A road map that identifies limited access

The archived page emphasized one practical advantage of this 1962 sheet: it identifies limited-access freeways rather than grouping them under the broader “dual highways” label used on the 1960 map.

That distinction makes the map a clearer period snapshot of the Dallas freeway network. The legend also separates completed routes from segments under construction, preserving a view of the system while it was still changing.
