620 Round Rock

Thanks to Robert Miller of Austin for alerting me of this section of abandoned roadway, and for providing photos.

South of RM 620, a gate opens onto cracked pavement that still carries its centerline; north of the highway, part of the old alignment remained active in 2001.

The 1984 aerial photograph clearly shows the old roadway and the new roadway. As of 1984, it appears that all of the old roadway north of 620 was open to traffic. In 2001, most of the old roadway north of 620 is still open to traffic, but a small section near the hospital has been abandoned. The section of south of the new roadway appears to have been abandoned when the new roadway opened, and part of it was lost to a gravel pit as shown in the 1984 photo. But the rest of the road is still there. Eventually, the south abandoned roadway will be lost to development.
