US 290 West of Austin
Created and last updated April 17, 2001
US 290 west of Austin traverses rocky stretches of the Texas Hill Country. The native foliage consists of scrub oak and cedar brush. This undivided four-lane roadway is becoming increasingly dangerous as traffic volumes go up. In the long run (10-20 years) this section of 290 will probably become a freeway most of the way to US 281. Photos were taken on April 15, 2001.
