DFW 114 location map

Freeway History
I still need to do some research on 114. The section from 183 (the eastern terminus) to DFW Airport was upgraded to freeway standards in early to mid-1970's. Feeder roads from IH-35W to 170 were completed in 2000. Previously, that section was a 2-lane highway.

Photos start at the west (near IH-35W) and proceed eastward

114 just west of IH-35W
A. Looking west, east of IH-35W. The feeder roads are in place, with the wide central right-of-way available for future main lanes. The large structure in the background is the Texas Motor Speedway, which is located at the intersection with IH-35W. Photo taken 19-August-2001.

114 Roanoke bypass
B. A very short section of freeway exists at the east end of the Roanoke bypass. This section was opened in 2000. Photo taken 19-August-2001.

114 west of Kirkwood
F. Driver's view going eastbound just west of Kirkwood. The office park in the background was originally constructed as a large IBM complex. I don't know if IBM still occupies it today. Photo taken 19-August-2001.

114 Southlake
H. Between Dove Road and Kimball, freeway construction has not yet begun. About $36.5 million in construction should be underway by 2002. The right-of-way will be substantially widened to about 400 feet (122m). Displacements will be minimal since most of the land in the corridor is vacant. Photo taken 14-May-2001.

114 north of DFW airport
K. (high resolution 126k) Looking east from the Northwest Highway overpass, just north of DFW airport. In this section, 114 and 121 merge together into the "Funnel", which is the passage between DFW airport on the south and Grapevine Lake on the north. In July 2001, TxDOT funded $524 million in improvements for the 121 corridor, which includes this section of highway. This section will be expanded to 10 main lanes and 4 HOT lanes. Photo taken 14-May-2001.

114 at 161
N. Looking east at the exit to 161. Connections to 161 will be made via the feeders. The 114 eastbound feeder was just recently constructed (in conjunction with the construction of 161), and the feeder starts at the exit ramp. Photo taken 19-August-2001.

114 Las Colinas
S. Driver's view of 114 in the Las Colinas area. The freeway has only four main lanes in this section. In the long run, the freeway will probably be expanded to 8 main lanes with 2 HOT lanes. Photo taken 16-September-2001.
